Bio detergents contain enzymes that break down protein, starch and fat stains, which is why they tend to shift food and body soiling at lower temperatures. Non bio leaves the enzymes out, and is the usual choice where skin sensitivity is a consideration, which is why care homes and nurseries often specify it. We stock both, in powder, liquid, pod and sachet form.

Because glass shows everything. Plates tolerate a detergent that leaves a trace of film; a pint glass in good light does not. Glasswash is formulated for glassware and runs in a separate glasswasher, which is why we list glasswash on its own, in hard and soft water versions. There is also a renovator for glasses that have already clouded, which is a different job from washing them again.

It changes how water behaves on the way out. Without it, water beads on the surface and each bead dries into a spot. With it, the water sheets off, so items come out of the machine drying evenly rather than needing a polish. Rinse aid comes in hard and soft water versions, as a concentrate, and as tablets.

They do two different jobs. The detergent deals with the minerals in the wash itself. Salt is for machines with a built in softener: it regenerates the softener so the machine keeps treating the water coming in. If your machine has a salt compartment, it needs salt, whichever detergent you use. Machines without one do not take it, so check before ordering.
